Transportation Requests

A school transportation request form is a document parents use to request busing services from their public school district, often required annually for non-public or community school students. It ensures eligibility check (usually based on distance), establishes safe routes, and is often due by late spring (e.g., May 31st) to guarantee service for the first day of school.

Process and Alternatives

  • Submission: Forms are submitted to the district's Transportation Department.

  • Impracticality: If the district determines transportation is "impractical," they may offer payment-in-lieu (PILO) of transportation, where parents are compensated to transport their own children.

  • Changes: Specific forms are also used for changes to existing routes or stops.

Where to Find Forms

  • Your local school district's official website (under "Transportation" or "Departments").

  • The administrative office of your child’s private/chartered school.
